Repair shops report that the maintenance item most frequently skipped by motorists is brake fluid service.

When AAA surveyed its nationwide network of Approved Auto Repair shops, 88 percent said that motorists frequently skip brake fluid service. “Motorists may not be aware of maintenance requirements for brake fluid, or their vehicles manufacturer may not recommend a specific interval for replacing the fluid,” Greg Brannon, AAA’s director of Automotive Engineering, said when reporting of the survey.

AAA recommends that consumers check their owner’s manual to see if the brake fluid should be changed at a specific interval. If no interval is specified for brake fluid service, AAA suggests flushing the system every two years or anytime the brake system is serviced.
